The Pomegranate Mentality

A pomegranate is such an intriguing and complex fruit... but it is also such a beautiful thing. Did you know that a pomegranate is drought-tolerant and can grow in dry areas of the Mediterranean with a winter rainfall climate, and in a region with a summer rainfall? This is pretty impressive and shows the incredible adaptability of this unique fruit.

Adaptability... that word instantly resonated with me!

The pomegranate does not allow stormy weather or copious amounts of sunshine to hinder its development and growth process by any means. Rather, it uses these elements to its full advantage, allowing them to aid the pomegranate in its journey in becoming the succulent and juicy fruit we so love to indulge in.

Far too often we allow the seasons to control our emotions. We allow our circumstances to define us.

We are not able to adapt to our surroundings as effortlessly as the pomegranate seems to. We tend to force our surroundings to adapt to our idea of how things should be which leaves us stagnant and feeling unsatisfied.

Now, the pomegranate weathers many a storm without allowing these storms to affect it or control it. Most humans allow their circumstances to control them rather than shape them. That is a simple choice WE make, yet we blame others for the outcome.

When researching this fascinating fruit, I came across a picture with the following caption: "The fruit of Punica Granatum split open to reveal the cluster of juicy, gem-like seeds on the inside". What a 'beaut' of a sentence. They refer to the seeds as gems, which got me thinking - shouldn't we refer to ourselves as gems and learn to love ourselves first? Because, essentially, that is who you'll be spending the rest of your life with.

Upon first glance, a pomegranate appears to have an ordinary exterior but when we take the time to peel back the layers an immaculate interior is revealed.

When asked to describe our exterior appearance in one word, the majority of us would use the word 'ordinary'. However, the thing that depicts sincere beauty is possessing an extra-ordinary interior.

To me, true beauty is measured by the content of your interior and how 'attractive' that interior is to others. No amount of physical beauty will ever be as valuable as a beautiful heart.

Of all things fruity, who would have thought one could learn valuable life lessons from a pomegranate? Don't ever limit the knowledge you gain to the pages of self-help books and real-life classes. Broaden your sources as it is the 'normal' and mundane aspects of our everyday lives which teach us the greatest and most meaningful lessons
